Aged Care HQ publishes plain-English guides to the Australian aged care system, for the person who got a phone call from a hospital this morning and has to make decisions this week.
Why this site exists
Aged care information in Australia is not scarce, it is scattered. Government pages are accurate but assume you already know the vocabulary. Provider websites are accurate about themselves and quiet about everyone else. Comparison sites are often lead generation businesses that get paid when you enquire.
We are an independent publisher. No provider owns us, no health fund funds us, and we do not take referral fees.
How we write
- Primary sources first. We cite the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, My Aged Care, Services Australia and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, and we link to them so you can check.
- No live dollar figures where they go stale. Aged care fees are indexed at least twice a year. Where amounts matter we point to the official estimator rather than publishing a number that will be wrong in six months.
- Plain English. Acronyms expanded on first use, no jargon left unexplained.
- Reviewed and dated. Every guide carries the date it was last checked.
What we are not
We are not a government agency, a provider, a broker or a placement service. We are not financial advisers, lawyers or clinicians, and nothing here is advice about your own circumstances.
Corrections
Aged care policy changes often, and we would rather be told than be wrong. If something here is out of date or incorrect, tell us and we will fix it.
This site is early
Aged Care HQ is in its first phase. More guides, state by state information and an independent provider directory are in development. If there is something you needed and could not find, we want to hear about it.
